A Healthy Homestay Participant
A homestay program gives individuals a chance to travel to another country to immerse themselves in the language and culture of that country. They get to stay in a homestay host’s place for the duration of time. Since one will be travelling to a foreign and perhaps, an unfamiliar territory, it is best to learn about the country and even the city in which you are going to stay and its health advisories. Was there an outbreak of some sort in that city for the last five years? Are there any reported disease or ailment that may be rampant in that place? This is important so people can be assured of being as safe and as secured as possible.
Moreover, it is also important to ask the owner of the house about the health and safety precautions that have been made in the house to ensure that everyone living in it is a safe place. Since this may be offensive for some people, it is your right to ensure your well-being while staying there. You may need to exert extra effort in asking the owner of the house in a friendly manner so as not to make things worse.
Aside from the health and safety conditions in the house that you are going to stay, it is also best to confirm with the owner about the meals that will be served. You can tell the owner of any allergies you may have on any kind of food to ensure that it will not be served. Also, it is advisable to stack on medicines in case you are on medication as it can be more expensive to buy it in another country.
