Shopping for Homestay Programs
Homestay programs are a great way for students to learn a new language and immerse themselves in another culture as well. It can also be a more inexpensive means of studying. There are however many types of homestay programs, so it is best to know how to select one properly before starting the process.
When you shop around for homestay programs, know that there are three types-programs involving full immersion, programs that provide board and lodging only, and programs that are somewhere between the previous two. For the first type, the student will be included in all activities of the host family. In other words, if the host family goes to parks, movie theatres, or attend weddings and birthdays, the student is invited to join. As for the second type, a room is provided to the student with or without a meal and that is it. With all these, you really have to determine first exactly what your needs are before you choose any homestay program.
Once you have chosen the right type, it is now time to look for the host family that can fit your requirements. When you do this, it is best that you allow professionals to handle the matter because you could get tangled in a scam or end up with a family who only cares about your finances. So that your homestay does not become miserable, ask help from reliable and experienced homestay professionals.
Afterwards, try to contact the chosen host family before you travel to their place. Ask all the questions that could help lessen your worries. Finally, be sure that a written contract is developed between you and the host family to ensure the success of your homestay!
